David Hendon CBE Deputy Chairman

David Hendon is a Visiting Professor at Surrey University, chairing the Strategy Advisory Board of the 5G Innovation Centre and he is a Senior Vice President of Rivada Networks Ltd.From 2011 to 2016 he was a part-time senior advisor at Ofcom, working on radio spectrum issues in particular.
From 2002 to 2011, David was a Director in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (formerly the DTI) where he was responsible for the communications, IT, electronics and media business sectors including policy for radio spectrum, broadband and cyber security.
From 1998 to 2002, David was chief executive of the Radiocommunications Agency where he took a personal interest in amateur radio, overseeing the introduction of internet linking and the Foundation Licence scheme.Earlier in his career David held posts concerned with radio communications in the Ministry of Defence, the Home Office and the Department of Trade and Industry.
For most of the period 1998 to 2011 he co-chaired the UK Spectrum Strategy Committee which is the Government’s senior committee concerned with radio spectrum and from 2012 to 2016 he was a member of the Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board.David still holds an amateur licence, G8DPQ, and is a member of the RSGB, although he isn’t active at the moment.He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.He was awarded a CBE in 2006.David is married with a son, two daughters and four grandchildren.
